Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC – This Saturday, Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) and Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) will host a Veterans Enrollment Fair at the Tomas Garces Texas National Guard Armory in Weslaco to encourage all eligible veterans to enroll in the VA health system and take advantage of their earned benefits. Higher enrollment for benefits will demonstrate the need and demand for a full-service VA hospital in the Rio Grande Valley.
Anyone who served in the U.S. Armed Forces for at least 181 days is eligible for VA benefits. Please bring your DD214 form with you.
“Throughout our nation’s history, members of the Armed Forces have proudly stepped forward and made enormous sacrifices to protect our country and way of life. Once our service members fulfill their commitment to our nation, we must honor our commitment to them. I hope all local veterans are able to take advantage of this Saturday's health care enrollment fair to learn more about the health benefits available to them. It is incredibly important that all veterans use this opportunity to enroll in the system if they have not done so already, as this will aid in efforts to bring a full-service VA hospital to the Rio Grande Valley.” –Congressman Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville)
“We need to keep working together to enroll more of our veterans in the health care system in an effort to let the Veterans Administration know that a full service hospital in the Rio Grande Valley for our veterans is not just a request, it is a demand," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "Our brave veterans who sacrificed so much for our country and for our individual freedoms should not have to fight another battle right here to bring a full service veteran's hospital to Deep South Texas. The time is now!”-Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-Mercedes)
