The next two years are shaping up to be very interesting on Capitol Hill.  As you have probably heard by now, for the first time since 2006, Republicans will control both the United States House of Representatives and the Senate.

On Election Day, voters across the country went to the polls and elected the largest Republican majority in the House since Harry Truman was President. In the Senate, Republicans have already captured eight new seats.

The elections are now over, and it’s time to get down to governing.

A great way to do that is through workforce development services, like one-stop career shops, community colleges, and state workforce development boards. Unfortunately, today’s workforce investment system is a maze of federal programs, some of which are ineffective and costly.

It continues to be an exciting time in Southwest Alabama, with businesses from across the globe like Austal and Airbus recognizing our home for its potential to become a regional hub for jobs. Just last week, the Chamber of Commerce announced that Mobile is among the top 10 cities in America for manufacturing jobs. With developments at Brookley and around Southwest Alabama, I believe we will only see that number continue to grow.
