Press Releases

Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) today released the below statement after voting in favor of H.R. 5759, the Executive Amnesty Prevention Act. This legislation would prohibit the executive branch from circumventing Congress to exempt or defer the removal of categories of those in the United States unlawfully, with limited exceptions.

“Today, the House acted to reaffirm that President Obama does not have the authority to unilaterally change our immigration laws, something that the President himself has stated more than 20 times,” said Renacci. “Substantial policy decisions that will have a significant impact on our economy and workforce deserve the accountability, transparency, and scrutiny that open debate and the legislative process provides. If we want to reform our immigration system, President Obama needs to work with Congress – not against us.”
