First Congressional District Youth Cabinet

Welcome to the page for the First Congressional District Youth Cabinet!

Started in 2012, the Congressional Youth Cabinet is composed of the best and brightest students from the First Congressional District of Missouri.  Members serving on the Cabinet are selected from among a pool of highly qualified eligible students.  Ever since its inception, the Congressional Youth Cabinet has been a student-led organization that functions to educate concerned students about the issues concerning the First Congressional District.  Through their participation in the Congressional Youth Cabinet, the members become more aware about events and movements that affect their community, and learn to serve their neighbors by working together.  The Congressional Youth Cabinet fosters an environment of mutual peer respect and learning.

I am confident that participation in the CYC will hone their leadership skills, instill the importance of civic duty, and values that are necessary to remain committed as engaged citizens.  Furthermore, the students will serve as youth advocates on issues that matter to them, which will allow me to better serve their interests and the interest of the First Congressional District in Congress.

Each year, my office will reach out to high school principals and superintendents in order to recruit students that possess strong performance in the following categories: academics, civic and community engagement, and are highly motivated to become active members of the CYC.  This select group of students will serve as a collective body to represent not only their local area high schools and communities, but gain valuable knowledge and assist me with public policy issues and the policy making process during their participation.  Students exhibiting the above qualities, who are interested in political policy, and who are seeking membership in the Congressional Youth Cabinet are encouraged to contact their principals or superintendents to discuss how to become nominated by them.

Below please enjoy photos from events in which the Congressional Youth Cabinet helped to create, organize, and participate.

Congressional Youth Cabinet members volunteer their time and efforts by assisting in my 8th Annual Congressional Career Fair.
2012 CYC members work at the car wash they organized and ran.  Proceeds from this car wash went to benefit Lydia's House.
I joined CYC members in the summer of 2013 to work with the group and with Habitat for Humanity.  It was a great experience for the members to see how their efforts would truly benefit the community around them.
