Yarmuth Releases Statement on Blackwater Hearing
Tuesday October 02, 2007(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) and the Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing examining the mission and performance of Blackwater USA as part of an ongoing investigation into the use of private military contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan. After the hearing, Congressman Yarmuth issued the following statement:
“We learned today that we have a system of private contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan that is not only unaccountable, but is costing the American taxpayer billions of dollars more than it should. So it’s important that continue our congressional oversight of these activities and try to develop regulations and legislation that prevent these abuses from happening in the future.”
