Rep. Yarmuth Praises Federal Investment in U of L Digital Manufacturing Research

WASHINGTON – This afternoon, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) released the following statement in support of a new federal investment in advanced manufacturing research at the University of Louisville.

The $70 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense, in which U of L will share, is part of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation (DMDI) Institute, a nationwide network of public and private institutions researching advanced manufacturing. The investment will help U of L establish its applied science and engineering park.

“I was proud to work with U of L in supporting this investment, which will help the university further cement itself as a regional powerhouse in advanced manufacturing and innovation,” Congressman Yarmuth said. “This investment will also help keep our community at the forefront of the revitalization of American manufacturing, which creates good jobs for Louisvillians, boosts our local economy, and makes Kentucky businesses more competitive in the global economy.”

The $70 million grant is being used to leverage a private investment of $250 million from industry, academia, government and community partners. The Institute will be headquartered at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Congressmen Yarmuth, Barr, and Rogers contacted the Department of Defense twice in 2013 in support of the grant.
