Economy and Jobs

Economy and Jobs

The greatest issue affecting our country today is the state of our economy.  Too many Pennsylvanians are out of work while many others are just getting by.  Since taking office, I have worked tirelessly to pass legislation that will put Americans back to work and get our economy back on track.

According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses—those with fewer than 500 employees—consistently create the majority of new jobs on an annual basis while employing more than half of the private sector workforce.  This growth engine is vital for getting our economy back on track, meaning that small business development and innovation is critical for our future.  It is vital that we continue to support small businesses as they find ways to grow, innovate and create jobs. Small businesses need certainty in tax rates, healthcare costs, credit availability, and many other considerations that are necessary to successfully operate a business.

Last Congress, I voted to repeal onerous tax reporting provisions and medical device taxes placed on small businesses by the President Obama’s healthcare law.  These pieces of legislation will reduce the administrative and tax burden on our local job creators and will allow hiring to increase.  I also voted for the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, which eases regulations on small business expansion to promote growth.  I have also attending hearings where we investigated the regulatory burden placed on businesses by the federal government, burdens I am committed to lifting. I am committed to helping both large and small businesses in our district in an effort to create jobs and increase economic development throughout the region.

In addition to passing this legislation to encourage job creation, I am committed to working in our district to help people find those jobs.  I was honored to host a jobs fair along with Penn State Brandywine that was attended by 600 job seekers and more than 30 employers.  Resources are also available on this website to assist those looking for employment, and I encourage you to review them.
