Internship Program

Working in a Congressional Office can be an incredibly rewarding and exciting experience. An internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, and observe first-hand how our government operates. Interns gain practical work experience where they receive mentoring and have a chance to cultivate a career in public service.

Internships in Senator Heinrich’s office are paid positions at an hourly wage of $10.10.  The number of paid internships are limited, highly competitive, and awarded to graduate and college-level students.  Priority is given to applicants from New Mexico although all interested persons are encouraged to apply.  Unpaid internship placements are not possible.

Applicants who would like to intern in the Washington D.C. office, or one of the New Mexico offices, must submit a resume, cover letter, writing sample (3 pages or less), and 3 references to: internships@heinrich.senate.gov. In the email subject line, please include your name and office location you would wish to intern.
