Education
The issue of Education is important to our district and to my work in Congress.
The ability to give our children an opportunity to receive a high quality education is of the upmost importance to me. It is our responsibility to ensure those in the next generation receives an education that will allow them to succeed in the global marketplace.
Local communities and school boards should be the epicenter of educational reform since they know their students the best. A top down approach created in Washington will not be able to address the individual and diverse needs students face across the country.
Federal laws that force a “one size fits all” approach across the country typically fail as one size and one method does not fit all. We need an improved education system with school choice to allow parents to move their children out of failing schools and to provide young adults the opportunity to go into the workforce or higher education system prepared for the challenges ahead.
To achieve these goals it is imperative we empower local educators to execute teaching methods as they see fit to meet their students’ needs, and that the federal government acts as a supportive resource in this mission, not a dictator of unfunded mandates that leave school officials helpless to educate their community’s children in a fitting manner.
