Flags Flown over the Capitol

As you may know, this will be my final term as your United States Representative and am in the process of closing my office.  In order to obtain an American flag that has flown over the United States Capitol, I ask that you contact our United States Senators, Robert Menendez or Cory Booker, who can assist you.

Since the flag first inspired Americans in the War of Independence, to Francis Scott Key to write the lyrics to the "Star-Spangled Banner" during the War of 1812, through Joe Rosenthal's iconic image of Marines raising the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima, the flag has served to remind us of the values of our country that Americans have worked and fought to defend. Flying the flag over the Capitol, a building that Thomas Jefferson referred to as a "temple dedicated to the sovereignty of the people," combines two of our nation's most enduring symbols. I view the American flag with a special reverence.
