Hoyer: House Republicans' Partisan Messaging Bills Do Little to Create Jobs, Grow Our Economy

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on partisan messaging bills passed by House Republicans this week that harm our environment and don't create jobs:

“Once again, Republicans are wasting the Congress’s time – and the American people’s time – on partisan messaging bills that would do little to create jobs or grow our economy.  The three bills they put forward this week have been described as legislation to advance jobs and manufacturing, but in reality they are the same kind of anti-environmental measures that put the interests of polluters over the health of our children and the environment.  Instead of these bills, the House ought to be considering real jobs legislation under the Make It In America plan – bills to adopt a national manufacturing plan, promote U.S. exports, reform the tax code to lure businesses back to our shores, and support skills training and education.   

“Democrats offered a bipartisan Make It In America bill, the ATTIRE Act, which Reps. David Price and Howard Coble introduced to support high-tech innovation in American textile manufacturing, as an alternative this week, but Republicans rejected it.  That was unfortunate, and I encourage my colleagues across the aisle to work with Democrats to move Make It In America legislation to the Floor – as well as time-sensitive legislation we must address before the end of the year, including an omnibus appropriations bill, a defense authorization measure, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, and tax extenders.”
