Academy Nominations

Senator Shaheen is honored to have the opportunity to nominate outstanding New Hampshire students to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy and West Point. Our nation’s service academies provide young men and women with the excellent education and leadership skills they need to succeed in the future.

Internships

Internships offer students a unique opportunity to observe and participate in the workings of the United States Senate. Applicants should be eager to learn about the legislative process and want to be part of a hardworking team that is dedicated to serving the citizens of New Hampshire. U.S. Senate Page Program

The Senate Page Program is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to get involved in government service, see the legislative process in action and experience life in our nation’s capitol. Students will be exposed to many interesting and challenging experiences as they work with some of the nation’s most prominent leaders and witness the political process firsthand.

U.S. Senate Youth Program

The United States Senate Youth Program is an excellent opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to deepen their knowledge of the Senate and the federal government overall, as well as receive a one-time five thousand dollar college scholarship to the undergraduate college of their choice. Begun in 1962 through Senate Resolution, the program is sponsored by the Senate each year to encourage high school students to pursue careers in public service.

Kids Page

Senator Shaheen's Kids Page is a great place for kids to learn more about the U.S. Senate and the federal government. It includes fun educational resources for kids and teachers, and an interview with Senator Shaheen.

United States Institute of Peace Essay Contest

Each year, the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) – an independent, nonpartisan institution established and funded by Congress to increase the nation's capacity to manage international conflict without violence – holds a National Peace Essay Contest (NPEC) for high school students on a different topic related to international conflict management and peacebuilding. The deadline is February 3, 2014.

Library of Congress - Junior Fellows Summer Intern Program 

The Library of Congress Junior Fellows Summer Intern program offers undergraduate and graduate students’ insights into the environment, culture and collections of the world's largest and most comprehensive repository of human knowledge. The fellows explore digital initiatives and inventory, catalog, arrange, preserve and research a backlog of special, legal or copyright collections in many different formats for a period of ten weeks, May 27-August 1. The fellowship requires students to work 40-hours per week Monday-Friday and includes a $3,000 stipend.
