Senator Shaheen spoke on the Senate floor in support of her bipartisan resolution honoring the lives of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, who were brutally murdered by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) also known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The resolution is co-sponsored by Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and mourns the loss of Foley and Sotloff and strongly condemns ISIS while calling for the immediate release of all hostages held by the terrorist organization.

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) called on her colleagues to support an extension of unemployment insurance in a speech on the Senate floor on Thursday, February 6, 2013. In her remarks Shaheen highlighted the consequences that the failure to extend unemployment insurance has already had on the economy and Granite State families; to date New Hampshire has lost an estimated $1.8 million worth of economic output as a result of lost emergency benefits.
