Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), the Ranking House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee, today released the following statement after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 321,000 jobs and maintained an unemployment rate of 5.8 percent, the lowest unemployment rate since July 2008, during the month of November. This marks the 57th consecutive month of private sector job growth.

“This is one of the best jobs reports we’ve had since President Obama took office. We’ve now had 57 consecutive months of private sector job growth, over 10.9 million private sector jobs in the last 6 and a half years, and the lowest unemployment rate since before the financial crisis. The new Congress will have an obligation to make sure make sure we build on this recent economic progress.

“We need to do more to raise wages, continue creating good paying jobs and ensure the gains in our economy are broadly shared by raising the minimum wage, making equal pay for equal work a reality, and by expanding rights in the workplace.”
