Job Title: Veterans Case Worker

Job Summary:  As a Veterans Case Worker in the district headquarters of Congressman Ted Deutch, this position will involve helping veterans access the federal services and benefits to which they are entitled. The Veterans Case Worker will communicate directly with constituents and make inquiries to the appropriate administrative and governmental agencies. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in social work, public service, or government and passionate about helping veterans cut through red tape and get the services they need. The Veterans Case Worker will also gain experience learning how a local congressional office works and the important role it plays in the community. The individual holding this position will also have the opportunity to inform the Congressman of issues of concern to the community and any systemic problems that may require his involvement to correct the situation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  The Veterans Case Worker will serve as a facilitator between constituents and agencies at the local, state, and federal level. As a representative of Congressman Ted Deutch and the people of Florida’s 21st district, the case worker will be required to communicate clearly with constituents about what can and cannot be done on their behalf by the district office. The Veterans Case Worker will be required to learn the laws, regulations and intricacies affecting a constituent’s case as well as the procedures and structure of Congressman Deutch office regarding casework and employee obligations, as outlined in the Office Handbook and the House of Representatives' Ethics Manual.  The Veterans Case Worker will also staff the Congressman at Veterans Advisory Group meetings and work closely with members of veterans’ agencies and advocacy groups to keep abreast of community developments and concerns. Additionally, the employee will be responsible to perform other duties as assigned by the Congressman, Chief of Staff, District Director and other staff members.

Requirements:  This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service and have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required.  Professional education through the U.S. military is highly encouraged.  Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Recent experience with and understanding of the U.S. Military and Department of Veteran’ Affairs structure, procedures, and policies.  Service-oriented, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability.”

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
