Price Announces New Staff Director for House Budget Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), Chair of the House Budget Committee in the upcoming 114th Congress, issued the following statement today announcing that Rick May will join the Committee as Staff Director in the new Congress.

“I’m excited to announce that Rick May will be joining our team as the new Staff Director for the House Budget Committee in the 114th Congress,” said Congressman Price. “Rick served in this role with distinction under former Chairman John Kasich at a time when a Republican Congress, working with a Democrat president, crafted solutions that led to a balanced budget. His leadership was instrumental in the success of that effort, and I’m grateful that he will be bringing that knowledge and experience back to the committee as we work to tackle the fiscal and economic challenges facing our nation today.”

Rick May has decades of public and private sector experience. He has served as a key legislative advisor at both the state and federal level. From 1993 to 1997, May served as the Republican Staff Director and then Majority Staff Director of the House Budget Committee. Most recently, he’s been the Executive Director of the Ohio Broadcast Educational Media Commission.

"It is truly an honor to be named to this important position and I look forward to working with Chairman Price and the members of the House Budget Committee in balancing the federal budget," said Rick May. "This committee plays a key role in how Congress addresses the nation’s most pressing budget and economic issues and my previous experiences will hopefully assist the Chairman and the Committee in meeting their responsibilities to the American people."

Congressman Price also praised the work of Austin Smythe, Staff Director for the House Budget Committee under Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI): “I cannot say enough about the tremendous work Austin has done on behalf of Chairman Ryan and the entire House Budget Committee. His leadership has been invaluable in helping our members put together bold, positive solutions and to shepherd those efforts through the Congress. I’m grateful for his service and especially appreciative of the fact that he has agreed to continue working with the committee to assist with a transition as we put together the next budget.”
