2014 Congressional High School Art Competition

High school students throughout the 3rd Congressional District are invited to submit artwork for the 2014 Nationwide “Artistic Discovery” Competition sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. This competition rewards talented high school students for their artistic abilities and dedication.

Accepted artwork mediums are as follows:

• Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

• Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal

• Collage: must be two dimensional

• Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints

• Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

• Computer-generated art

• Photography

The winning student will have the opportunity to showcase his or her artwork in the Nation’s Capitol and Congressman Mike Kelly will display the second and third place pieces in his Washington, D.C. office. The winner will also receive two Southwest Airline tickets to Washington D.C. for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Capitol Building. 

How to Submit Artwork:

1. Review the Congressional Art Competition 2014 Guidelines to make sure your art is the appropriate size and medium and also read the instructions below. 

2. Complete the Student Information and Release Form.

3. Submit artwork to one of the district offices (to find locations, click here) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday - April 11, 2014. If a student does not have the resources to send the artwork to a district office, please contact Stephanie Stevenson at (724) 282-2557 or Stephanie.Stevenson@mail.house.gov.

 

Awards Ceremony

Slippery Rock University will host the awards ceremony for the Third Congressional District “Artistic Discovery” Competition on Saturday - April 26, 2014 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm, in the Martha Gault Gallery. The artists, their families, teachers, friends, school personnel and local dignitaries are invited to attend.
