VOTE HERE for the 13th District People's Choice Award!
The 2014 13th District People's Choice Award is a new addition to the Congressional Art Competition. It allows all 13th District residents to go online, see the art submissions, and vote for their favorite piece to win this additional recognition.
The winner of the People's Choice Award will be announced May 5 along with the 1st place winner of the overall Congressional Art Competition. Voting ends May 1.
Are you, your child, or someone you know a budding artist who would like to see their work displayed in the United States Capitol? If so, this competition is for you.
Since its establishment in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the annual, nationwide Congressional Art Competition. Every spring, the House of Representatives gives high school students from each congressional district the opportunity to compete for their piece of artwork to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one entire year. The winning artists will also attend an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. to see their art displayed and meet their Representative.
All 13th District high school students – whether enrolled in public, private, or home school – are eligible to enter the competition. All artwork entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. The artwork – including the frame – should be no larger than 28” X 28” X 4” and cannot weigh more than 15 pounds.
I am accepting artwork submissions from now until Monday, April 21, 2014. To submit your artwork, please email a digital photo of your work and the 2014 Student Information Release Form to christina.swisher@mail.house.gov. The photograph should include the submission only and should reflect the best representation of the art. All entries must be submitted digitally to my office by Monday, April 21, 2014.
The winner will be announced on May 5, 2014.
The winner will be responsible for framing his or her own entry and shipping it to my Amarillo or Wichita Falls district office. Framing regulations are included in the guidelines below.
