Academy Nominations

High school students in their junior and senior year as well as high school graduates under the age of 23 can apply to Sen. Bill Nelson’s office for a nomination to a service academy. The academies include the Military Academy at West Point, NY, the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, the Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. The Coast Guard Academy at New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

For students interested in obtaining a congressional nomination for the class entering in the Summer of 2015, the application process will begin on March 1, 2014.

Nelson's SAT code is 0220 and the ACT code is 7118.

Applicants are encouraged to open a pre-candidate file at their respective academy of interest as soon as possible. The academies usually recommend that students do so during their junior year of high school. Once a pre-candidate file has been opened with the admissions office, officials there will establish a candidate file for students to keep track of their application materials.  For more information about service academies, visit the links below.

A congressional nomination is not required for admittance into the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Interested applicants should apply directly to the Coast Guard Academy (www.cga.edu).
