Washington, DC—Tomorrow, H.R. 2565, the STOP IRS Act, a bill introduced by  U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16), will receive a vote on the House Floor under suspension of the rules. In response, Rep. Renacci made the following statement:

“I am very pleased to announce that the STOP IRS Act will receive a vote in the House. This bipartisan legislation seeks to close a loophole by giving the IRS the ability to immediately terminate an employee who has targeted a person or group for their political beliefs. In answering a question I posed during a Ways and Means Committee hearing, IRS Principal Deputy Commissioner Daniel Werfel testified that this would be a useful tool for his organization going forward.

“It is my sincere hope that the entire House will support this measure because political targeting at the IRS should not be tolerated regardless of which groups are being singled out. Put more simply, I would advise my colleagues that a vote against this legislation means they are more interested in playing politics than protecting their constituents from Washington’s dysfunction.”

Rep. Renacci is serving his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
