History

In July 2010, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann organized the first Tea Party Caucus meeting because Congress had strayed from the fundamental principles of the Constitution and was not listening to the American people. The Tea Party Caucus was launched as a means for everyday Americans to express their views to Members of Congress. Its inaugural meeting featured everyday Americans, including a small business owner, a construction worker and a homemaker, voicing their concerns to 24 Representatives. By the close of the 111th Congress, membership had swelled to 52 Representatives.

With the dawn of the new Congress in January 2011, the Tea Party Caucus was reestablished. The Caucus found encouragement from the Tea Party movement and their successful efforts to bring new conservatives to the House of Representatives. Currently, the Caucus remains a listening ear for Americans to share their views with Washington.
