If there was ever any doubt that ObamaCare was rammed through Congress with a heavy dose of arrogance, duplicity, and contempt for the will of the American people, recent comments made by one of the law’s chief architects, Jonathan Gruber, put that to rest.  As National Journal reports:

“Appearing on an academic panel a year ago, this key Obamacare adviser argued that the law never would have passed if the administration had been honest about the fact that the so-called penalty for noncompliance with the mandate was actually a tax. ‘And, basically, call it ‘the stupidity of the American voter,’ or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass,’ Gruber said.”

This isn’t the first time Gruber acknowledged that the Obama administration deliberately misled Americans.  Last year, after a wave of cancellation notices upended the president’s promise that workers could keep the plans they liked and could afford, Gruber admitted, “you present the facts in a way that’s ultimately not 100 percent accurate for every person.”  There is one fact that remains ‘100 percent accurate’: ObamaCare is a disaster for the economy, a disaster for jobs and small businesses, and a disaster, especially, for middle-class families:

“Obamacare 2015: Higher Costs, Higher Penalties” “[A] number of low-priced Obamacare plans will raise their rates in 2015, making those options less affordable. On top of that, penalties for failing to secure a health-insurance plan will rise steeply next year, which could take a big bite out of some families’ pocketbooks. … That flat-rate penalty ‘will affect lower-income or middle-income households,’ [InsuranceQuotes.com’s Laura] Adams said. Some middle-class families ‘may be making enough that they don’t qualify for a subsidy, so they won’t get a break if they are getting health coverage. It’s a big penalty for the middle class for not having insurance.’” (MoneyWatch)

The American people are anything but ‘stupid.’  They’re the ones bearing the consequences of the president’s health care law and, unsurprisingly, they continue to oppose it.  That’s why Speaker Boehner made clear, in a joint op-ed with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) last week: “We will honor the voters’ trust by focusing, first, on jobs and the economy,” including “renewing our commitment to repeal ObamaCare, which is hurting the job market along with Americans’ health care.”
