(Hartford) – Today, Congressman John B. Larson joined Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy in a letter to Commissioner Carolyn Colvin of the Social Security Administration in opposition to the closing of the Bristol Social Security Office. The Members released the following in a joint statement:

"The closure of the Bristol Social Security Office would have a significant impact on our communities and our seniors. While the current sequester has forced every agency to look for ways to cut down on costs, we must continue to provide our residents with the services and assistance offered by our local Social Security offices. We stand united with Mayor Ward and the greater Bristol community in our opposition to this decision and will be working with the Social Security Administration to explore all possible options to avoid closing this crucial office."

In their letter, the Members request a meeting with Commissioner Colvin to discuss the rationale for the proposed closure and options of ensuring continued opportunities for in person contact between Bristol residents and Social Security Administration personnel.
