(Hartford) – Today Congressman John B. Larson, Chairman of the Task Force on Election Reform, released the following statement on the current Shelby County v. Holder Supreme Court case challenging a key provision of the Voting Rights Act:

"The Voting Rights Act, although born of a different era, continues to be a critical part of our efforts to safeguard the electoral process in the United States," said Congressman Larson. "Our most recent election illustrates the unjust struggles that minority populations continue to face while trying to exercise their right to vote. We need to ensure that across the country local policy decisions are not affecting elections by deliberately hindering anyone's ability to cast a ballot."
