Van Hollen Statement on Census Report on Poverty

Sep 16, 2014 Issues: Social Safety Net

Washington, DC – Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Census Bureau’s report on Income and Poverty in the United States:

“There is no question we need to do more to help Americans move into the middle class. As our economy continues to recover, we cannot pull the rug out from struggling families – which is exactly what Republican proposals to cut the social safety net and repeal the Affordable Care Act would do. The task of expanding economic opportunity to all corners of our society is far from complete. Democrats will continue to work to boost job growth, expand the middle class, and support those who are still working to make ends meet.”
