Van Hollen Statement on CBO’s Updated Budget and Economic Outlook

Aug 27, 2014

Washington, DC – Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the updated Budget and Economic Outlook from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO):

“Today’s update of CBO’s Budget and Economic Outlook reinforces the need for what President Obama and Democrats in Congress have been fighting for – economic growth, a stronger middle class, and a balanced approach to deficit reduction.  There is no question we have made progress – businesses have added 9.9 million jobs over 53 straight months of job growth.  But there is more we need to do.  That’s why House Democrats have offered the Middle Class Jumpstart Plan, which would put Americans back to work, support women and families, and ensure educational opportunities that are accessible and affordable for all.

“Unfortunately, Washington Republicans have blocked us at every turn.  Instead of boosting working families, they have protected special interests and the very wealthy at the expense of everyone and everything else.  It’s time for Republicans to put aside partisanship and focus on the real concerns of our nation.”
