Connecting to Congress

Lawmakers continue to discuss ways to avoid going over the “fiscal cliff” – which could mean tax increases for 98% of American families and spending cuts in defense programs, education funding and community block grants, job training, public housing, Head Start and low-income heating assistance programs.  The $607 billion in tax increases and deep spending cuts will automatically go into effect at the end of the year if Congress fails to act.
The Obama administration would like to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class  and let them expire for the wealthy.  Republicans are opposed to tax increases for those making more than $250,000 and propose making changes to programs such as Social Security, which does not even contribute to our nation’s debt and should not be included in the “fiscal cliff” discussions.

Do you think that these important programs should be cut and middle class families pay more in taxes, while the wealthiest 2% continue to pay fewer taxes?
