Join Olympians and Paralympians for a Sports Demonstration Breakfast: Support National Olympic Day!

Jun 20, 2011

During the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games we witnessed unprecedented achievement by our nation's athletes.  To honor Team USA and the Olympic spirit, events will be held here in Washington, D.C. and all around the country on National Olympic Day on June 23rd. As co-chairs of the Congressional  Olympic and Paralympic Caucus, we hope you will accept the invitation you received from the United States Olympic Committee to the Olympic Day Celebration and Sports Demonstration this Friday, June 25th, in the Gold Room (2168 Rayburn) from 9:30-ll:OOam. This is an opportunity for you and your staff to meet Olympians and Paralympians, learn the importance of physical fitness, and see judo, hand-cycle, rowing and speed-skating demonstrations. Breakfast will be served.

In conjunction with Olympic Day events, we will also be introducing a resolution recognizing June 23rd as National Olympic Day and congratulating Team USA for their success in Vancouver.  This resolution also recognizes the participants of World Fit, a program established by Olympians to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle for middle school children.  We encourage you to cosponsor this resolution to honor the hard work, commitment and talent of all Olympic and Paralympic athletes, past and present.

Additionally, we would like to invite you to join the Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus.  We are a bipartisan group of Members dedicated to educating Congress about the goals and spirit of Olympic related athletic activity, increasing diversity in athletics, promoting clean and fair competition, expanding youth sports, highlighting the benefits of sports to individuals with disabilities and supporting the vision of enabling athletes to realize their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.
