Udall Successfully Leads Effort to Cut Red Tape on Administration's Review of Liquefied Natural Gas Export Facilities
Udall: Announcement is Step in Right Direction to Help Ensure Colorado Natural Gas Resources Can Create Jobs, Contribute to Global Stability
Mark Udall, who serves on the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, heralded the U.S. Department of Energy's decision today to streamline its review of pending liquefied natural gas export terminals. The decision follows Udall's recent letter with a coalition of other senators pressing the president to break the logjam of pending export applications as well as Udall's bipartisan effort to expand exports through legislation.
"Colorado's natural gas has an important role to play in creating jobs and promoting global stability. I have been proud to lead the bipartisan effort in Congress to cut red tape and speed up the U.S. Department of Energy's review of pending liquefied natural gas export terminals," Udall said. "I appreciate that the administration has heeded my call and took today's step in the right direction, but we still have work to do. I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Ernest Moniz to take full advantage of responsibly utilizing our vast natural gas resources."
Udall is a strong supporter of developing Colorado's clean-burning and job-creating natural gas resources. Udall most recently welcomed the U.S. Energy Department's approval of a liquefied natural gas terminal in Oregon. Udall also has supported the Grand Junction Economic Partnership's effort to study the effect liquefied natural gas exports could have on the Western Slope's economy.
