LARSON STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT'S ULTIMATUM TO SADDAM HUSSEIN

WASHINGTON, D.C.- "I am deeply disappointed that diplomatic efforts have been abandoned and I continue to hope that a solution may be found to avert imminent military conflict. While I continue to strongly disagree with the policies of preemption and unilateralism, should America commit forces to battle, I will proudly stand behind our troops. The men and women in uniform bravely perform their duty and are not responsible for policy or debate, but rather salute and follow orders. In the event of war, I believe that the United States must work vigorously to bring humanitarian aid to that troubled region and work to rebuild Iraq and help ensure the institution of a peaceful democratic government. War also requires great sacrifice on the part of every American citizen, not only our soldiers. I hope therefore that the President is forthright about the costs of this conflict."
