LARSON: PRESIDENTS PRIORITIES ARE ALL WRONG

Today, President Bush vetoed legislation that would provide healthcare to millions of poor children whose families could not otherwise afford insurance. The SCHIP bill was passed through both houses of Congress with bipartisan support. Congressman John Larson CT-01, Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus said:

I think it is unbelievable that the president has now vetoed three things over the course of his presidency. He vetoed funding for stem cell research. He vetoed withdrawing our troops from Iraq. And now he vetoes SCHIP a bipartisan bill that provides healthcare to poor children. He is obviously more focused on funding and continuing this unpopular war than on helping the young and the sick. Sadly, we now know what he meant by compassionate conservative. Only 24 Republicans in House stand in the way of a veto override. I hope they have the courage and the sense to vote for this very important legislation.
