Bachmann: Join ISIS, Lose Your Passport

Sep 8, 2014

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, will introduce legislation today regarding American citizens who fight against the United States with terrorist groups like ISIS, al Qaeda, and al-Shabaab.

The Terrorist Denaturalization and Passport Revocation Act amends existing law to include membership or association with a foreign terrorist organization as a renunciation of U.S. citizenship and grounds for denaturalization. Additionally, the bill gives the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security additional tools to revoke passports of terrorists before or after they travel abroad to better track their movements and prevent attacks on our homeland.

“Those who have joined a foreign terrorist organization have taken up arms against the United States and our very way of life. By turning against their country, their passports should be revoked and if they’re naturalized citizens, they should lose their citizenship. As elected officials, protecting our nation and keeping the American people safe is our highest duty. In light of the growing threat of terrorist groups like ISIS and al-Shabaab, I urge House and Senate leaders to fast track this legislation and for the President to sign it,” said Bachmann.
