Cantwell Applauds SBA Administrator’s Vision for Equal Opportunity in Entrepreneurship

WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, issued the following statement on U.S. Small Business Administration head Maria Contreras-Sweet’s speech this week at the Center for American Progress in which she outlined her vision for ensuring that small business owners have the resources and capital they need to succeed.

“I applaud Administrator Contreras-Sweet for her commitment to an inclusive and diverse Small Business Administration that creates opportunities for women, minorities, and veterans. I share the Administrator’s vision to promote equal opportunity in entrepreneurship and to open new markets for all Americans.

“I agree we need to work to expand access to capital through new avenues such as microloans and to level the playing field for women when it comes to competing for federal contracts.  Helping all entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of running a successful small business will drive new growth in the U.S. economy and create U.S. jobs.”
