Page Program
For more than 100 years, messengers known as Pages have served the United States Congress. The Senate Page Program is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to get involved in government service, see the legislative process in action, and experience life in our nation’s capital. Students will be exposed to many interesting and challenging experiences as they work with some of the nation’s most prominent leaders and witness the political process firsthand.
Living away from New Hampshire and attending school with students from around the country allows Pages to experience a myriad of new ideas, perspectives, and issues. There are thirty Page positions available each semester to serve the one hundred Members of the Senate. Because of the number of interested students, the selection process is very competitive.
Pages are appointed and sponsored by a member of Congress and are limited to United States citizens who are juniors in high school and will be at least 16 years old before the date of appointment. Students must also have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
Senate Pages attend early morning classes at the United States Senate Page School, which is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Pages play an important role in the daily operations of the Senate. Their shared responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Delivering correspondence and legislative material
- Taking messages for Senators
- Preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions
- Carrying bills and amendments to the desk
There are four Page sessions:
Fall Semester: Early September through mid-January
Spring Semester: Mid-January through mid-June
Summer Session I: Early June and runs 3-4 weeks
Summer Session II: Early July and runs 3-4 weeks
Application Deadlines:
Fall: May 1st
Spring: September 1st
Summer: March 1st
How to apply:
Applicants will need to complete the U.S. Senate Page Application form, as well as submit two letters of recommendation and a copy of the applicant’s high school transcript.
