U.S. Congressman Blake Farenthold, a member of the House Committee on Transportation, today applauded an Army contract awarded to Orion Marine Construction for a dredging and maintenance project at the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.

"This contract will allow for much needed improvements at the Port of Corpus Christi and the surrounding channels and waterways," said Congressman Farenthold.  "The Coastal Bend has seen an increase in waterborne trade as the energy boom and manufacturing renaissance opened doors to a new demand for goods to move in and out of our local ports. The maintenance and dredging of these waterways will support that increase in trade today, and allow for even more growth in the future."

The exact amount of this contract is $8,054,750, and it provides for maintenance and pipeline dredging of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, from the Inner Basin of the Lower Bay reach to BCN 82 and La Quinta Channels in Nueces County, Texas.  The work will be performed in Corpus Christi, Texas and the estimated contract completion date is March 3, 2014.
