Argentina Must Live Up to Commitments of G-20 Member, Ros-Lehtinen Says

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding Argentina’s status as a G-20 country, following the conclusion of the G-20 Mexico summit.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“Argentina needs to change its course and fulfill its commitments and obligations to international economic agreements in order to maintain its role as a G-20 country.

“It is troubling that Argentina refuses to honor its outstanding debts, and evades U.S. court decisions. Over the past decade, Argentina has also failed to abide by membership requirements of the IMF, and has disregarded claims by the United States before the arbitral tribunal of the World Bank.

“Nations included in the G-20 must uphold international economic standards.  Unless Argentina complies with these standards and meets its international obligations, its membership in the G-20 must be reexamined and reconsidered.”
