U.S. Representative Ed Royce

39th District of California

The cost of higher education is rising quickly and many students find themselves shouldering the weight of crushing student loan debt. In fact, student loan debt has increased by 281 percent over the past decade with twelve million college students borrowing annually to help cover college costs. The good news is there are a number of federal and private grants and other financing options available to students and their families to help address their financial concerns.

Representative Ed Royce believes that every student should have the opportunity to go to college, despite the costs. That’s why he recently hosted two “Paying for College” seminars in Los Angeles and Orange Counties in the last several months. These free workshops hosted over 700 attendees and helped students prepare, apply, and pay for higher education. Attendees heard from keynote speaker Rebekah Bell, whose opinion piece on how to graduate from college debt-free was featured in the Wall Street Journal. Click here for Rebekah’s ‘Tips and Tricks’.

The seminars also provided information about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program, including on-site reviews of FAFSA forms, as well as other federal and private student loans, grants, and alternative financing options. Representatives from local colleges – including Cal Tech, UCLA, UC Riverside, USC, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal State Fullerton – were also available to speak with students and their families.

Rep. Royce will continue to host these events biannually throughout the district and we would like to thank the universities that participated in the event for helping to make it a huge success.
