U.S. Representative Ed Royce

39th District of California

U.S. Representative Ed Royce (R) is serving in his eleventh term in Congress, representing the 39th Congressional district, based in Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. As an active member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Royce is known for his knowledge of many different regions of the world and insight into key U.S. foreign policy issues. For the current Congress, Royce has been named Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.  Prior to becoming Chairman of the Committee, Royce served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade and a member of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.

Royce is also an active member of the Hellenic Caucus.  As a member of this Caucus, Royce has advocated against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's use of the name "Macedonia," cosponsoring H.Res.356.  Royce has also spoken out against the misdeeds wrought against the Ecumenical Patriarch, signing a letter to the Turkish President urging him to end his religious persecution.  Royce also cosponsored H.Res.373, urging Turkey to respect the rights and religious freedoms of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Royce has long been a supporter of the reunification of Cyprus.  In the last Congress, Royce cosponsored H.Res.620, a resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that Turkey should end its military occupation of the Republic of Cyprus, particularly because Turkey's pretext has been refuted by over 13,000,000 crossings by Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots into each other's communities without incident.

Royce was previously recognized for his work on Greece, receiving the Pericles Award in 1999.

A California native, Royce is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, School of Business Administration. Royce and his wife, Marie, have been married for 28 years.
