PRESS RELEASE: Congressman Vela Named Among 50 Influentials by Hispanic Business

 

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Filemon Vela (D- Brownsville) was recently listed among the 2014 50 Influentials by Hispanic Business. Congressman Vela was the only Member of Congress included in the list. 

 

Individuals were chosen based on efforts to promote the advancement of Hispanics in the U.S. through their leadership, community involvement, and professional achievements in their field. To be eligible for the list, candidates must be Hispanics of U.S. Citizenship, and have recently made a positive impact at the national level. Hispanic Business, created in 1979 by Jesús Chavarría, uses an exclusively online publishing platform to share business and political news to a targeted audience of Hispanic professionals and entrepreneurs. 

 

"It is a true honor to be placed on this list among such accomplished leaders," said Congressman Vela. "It is my hope that I will continue to be a positive influence for the people of South Texas and an inspiration for Hispanics everywhere."

 

Other notable honorees include US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro;  Sprint President and CEO Marcelo Claure;  US Department of Homeland Security US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Leon Rodriguez; Toyota President of Texas Manufacturing Joe Da Rosa; and Actress Zoë Saldana.
