Boehner: “I can tell you with confidence that the law is not gaining acceptance in our region”

Today, Congressman John Boehner (R- West Chester) issued the following statement in response to a news conference held today by Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley encouraging local residents to sign up for coverage under the president’s disastrous health care law:

“From the thousands of comments, calls and emails I continue to receive from the people of my district sharing horror stories about their experiences with the president’s health care law, I can tell you with confidence that the law is not gaining acceptance in our region, or even coming close to gaining acceptance.  Whether it’s less access and fewer benefits for seniors, higher premiums for small business workers, or widespread security risks for exchange users, hardworking families can’t catch a break under the president’s health care law.  

“The president’s broken promises hit people at home.  People like Mickey, who owns a small business in Preble County.  Mickey recently told my office, ‘It’s getting a point where it’s not even worth it,’ when he learned that he will face an 84.9 percent to 127 percent increase in plan rates due to ObamaCare’s insurance changes – which is going to force him to discontinue offering group health coverage.

“Or take Nancy from Hamilton, an 81-year-old whose access to care has been hurt thanks to ObamaCare’s cuts to Medicare Advantage.  Nancy isn’t alone: more than 50,000 seniors in the 8th District rely on Medicare Advantage for their health care needs, and the cuts to Medicare Advantage under the president’s health care law leaves them vulnerable to losing their doctors and benefits.

“The president’s health care law is another punch in the gut for our local businesses and neighbors who are already struggling in the president’s economy.  And the truth is you can’t fix this law – it needs to be torn out by its roots.  As long as this law is around and making things worse, we’re going to keep fighting it.”
