Since 1983, Rep. Kaptur has served on the House Appropriations Committee http://democrats.appropriations.house.gov, which has broad authority over federal spending.

After the 2012 election, Rep. Kaptur was named ranking member on the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development.

She continues to serve on the powerful Defense Subcommittee and also on the Financial Services Subcommittee.

The Appropriations Committee is given broad responsibility over the federal budget by Rule X of the Rules of the House.  The committee appropriates the revenue for the support of the government. The government is funded through a series of 13 separate appropriations bills covering various jurisdictions.

Rep. Kaptur, who is the committee member with the most seniority, has advocated and secured assistance for numerous projects in the Ninth Congressional District, mainly for infrastructure.
