Congressman Boehner on VA Access and Accountability Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today released the following statement after the House passed the Veterans’ Access to Care Through Choice, Accountability, & Transparency Act (H.R. 3230), a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to begin addressing the problems at the Veterans Administration:

“Allowing the lives of our nation’s veterans to slip through the cracks of a broken bureaucracy is not just unacceptable, it’s immoral.  Making sure veterans have timely access to care is one of the first things we must do to address the crisis at the VA.  We also need real accountability, and making it easier to fire or demote the senior managers who are not doing their jobs is a positive step forward.  But, this agreement is just the beginning.  Much more work needs to be done to fix the widespread problems at the VA, and it’s going to require the president to outline a long-term plan for systemic VA reform.

“This is another example of what we can accomplish when we put aside politics for the common good, and I’m especially grateful to Chairman Jeff Miller and the members of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee for their leadership.”

NOTE: The Senate is expected to take up H.R. 3230 later this week, sending the agreement to the White House for the president’s signature.

After hearing from an overwhelming number of veterans from his district, Congressman Boehner last February and Aprilsent letters to the VA Secretary seeking answers to the VA claims backlog.  Last July, Congressman Boehner was joined by Members of Congress from the Ohio delegation in a letter to the Secretary demanding from the VA a direct and transparent plan for addressing the VA claims backlog.

Ever since, Congressman Boehner has continued to press the VA and the administration on their commitment to our local veterans in Ohio.

How low can you go? Really ?? I defended you with my friends. I have always believed you were a good man in a tough situation. I don’t believe that anymore. I am so sorry for your grandchildren. Does our tax payer money mean nothing to you? Do something constructive. Do you not get tired of trying to deconstruct all the good others are trying to do?
I’ve never been political, but today I am. I have never written anything on any social media site, or to a political figure good or bad. I have never attended or conducted a political rally. I am all over it now. No matter what the history books say about Obama he will shine in the weakness of John Boehner. Thanks for rallying the American people. What is sad and breaks my heart is you have the power with your position to effect change, unfortunately you do not have the strength. Our world today would look a whole lot different if you would grow some balls.
And your statement on the Veterans bill. Sickening, still about political position….if you had fought and took the LEAD in the preceding bill perhaps those veterans would not have died in the first place. You did that.
