Secret Science

Ohioans want common-sense solutions that promote clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment – without adding red tape and burdensome mandates that will ultimately destroy jobs and limit freedom for them and their families.

Hiding the facts is no way to achieve that goal.  So last week, the House continued its work to rein in the Obama administration’s regulatory overreach by passing the Secret Science Reform Act (H.R. 4012), a bill that would prevent the EPA from promulgating harmful regulations based on technical and scientific data unavailable to the public, or “secret science.”

In September, Rep. Boehner talked more about a House measure to protect families and small businesses across Ohio from the damaging effects of the Obama administration’s Waters of the United Sates rule – a proposed rule that’s based on the same kind of “secret science” that the House acted last week to prevent in the future.

By requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to base its regulations on science that’s available for validation and replication, we are ensuring transparency and protecting the American people from harmful and unnecessary regulatory burdens.

Following are Congressman Boehner’s September remarks regarding the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Protection Act – the House-passed measure to address the administration’s Waters of the United States Rule:

I’ve heard from a number of farmers and small business owners in our area who are concerned about the president’s recent land grab under his proposed Waters of the United States rule.

If the president has his way, the federal government will be able to regulate ditches in our own backyards.

This will hurt families, farmers, and small businesses everywhere, and food prices will go even higher.

This couldn’t come at a worse time – we’re paying more for just about everything under the president’s economy.

So this week, the House is passing a bill to halt the overreach and restore some common sense.

This is just one more of our solutions to help lower costs here at home.
