The five United States Service Academies provide outstanding opportunities for qualified men and women to receive one of the most respected college educational experiences in the nation. They offer appointments to highly qualified individuals who meet eligibility requirements and show evidence of character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation.

All Academies, except for the United States Coast Guard Academy, require a nomination from a qualified nominating source in addition to meeting the individual eligibility and entrance requirements for each respective academy.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Members of Congress may fill up to five vacancies at each of the Service Academies. For each vacancy, members of Congress may nominate up to 10 candidates who meet the eligibility requirements established by law. The student remains in one of the slots until that student graduates. Applicants are eligible for nomination by both United States Senators in the state of their legal residence and by the United States Representative for the District in which they reside. In addition, they may also be eligible for other nominating sources.

Note: The deadline for applications is October 17th. The deadline has now passed.

ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS

In order to be eligible for consideration for nomination through U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan each applicant must be:

1. At least 17 years old, but not have passed your 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year you would enter the academy.
2. A United States citizen (prior to entering the academy).
3. Unmarried, without dependents and not pregnant.
4. A legal resident of North Carolina.
