Taking Care of Our Seniors

Social Security and Medicare have been some of the most successful and popular programs in our country’s history. Together they help to keep millions of Americans healthy and prevent them from falling into poverty.  I am committed to finding sensible, long-term solutions to ensure that these essential programs remain available for generations to come.

My priorities include:

  • Enacting sensible, gradual reforms to ensure Social Security’s solvency. While Social Security is not in immediate financial trouble, Congress must act to ensure that the program’s long-term financial outlook remains strong. I support modest adjustments, like raising the cap on wages subject to the Social Security tax and gradually increasing the retirement age, in order to protect the program for future beneficiaries. Gradually implemented adjustments like these will shore up Social Security’s financial outlook and prevent the need for significant structural changes in the future.
