Shuster Votes to Support our Veterans and Fully Restore COLA Benefits

WASHINGTON– On Tuesday, Congressman Shuster voted in favor of S. 25, a bill that fully restores cuts to the cost of living adjustments (COLA) for military retirees. The bill passed the House by a vote of 326 to 90.

“I was proud to cast my vote for this measure that restores the benefits our veterans so bravely earned,” said Shuster. “Military service is one of the greatest forms of service. All veterans are deserving of our country’s full support. The entire country stands in gratitude to these heroes who have dedicated their lives to defending our freedom and keeping our country safe.”

The legislation which passed by a vote of 326-90 fully restores the annual COLA for veterans under the age of 62, and offsets the $6 billion cost through adjustments to Medicare.

“By passing this bill the House sends a clear message that we stand by our veterans. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am committed to working on behalf of those who protect the nation. President Obama and the Senate should take swift action and sign this bill into law without delay.”
