Shuster Congratulates the Franklin County Regional Airport on $720,000 Grant

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) is pleased to announce that the Franklin County Regional Airport (FCRA) in Chambersburg has been awarded a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant in the amount of $720,000. The grant will fund the construction of a new expansion to the airport’s taxiway, improving service capacity.

“I am very pleased to know that Franklin County Regional Airport will be receiving FAA Grant funding to help them with a construction phase of their taxiway,” said Shuster.  “Regional air service is an important link which brings together local communities and larger cities across the county. The Franklin County Regional Airport plays a crucial role in the economic growth of Franklin County, and its service will continue to be an integral part of the community with the help of this funding.”

The Franklin County Regional Airport provides general aviation service for the community of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and is operated and owned by the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA). It features one runway 3,300 feet in length and 75 feet in width, with 11,750 square feet of hangar space. Money from the grant will be used to construct approximately 700 feet of new parallel taxiway, including additional taxiway markings, lighting, and pavement.

“The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, owner and operator of the Franklin County Regional Airport, is pleased to be notified of a $720,000 grant offer from the FAA which will be used to construct a parallel taxiway to the primary runway at FCRA,” said Timothy Edwards, Executive Director of the Harrisburg International Airport. “The parallel taxiway will provide increased operational safety at FCRA by eliminating the need for aircraft to back-taxi on an active runway after an arrival or prior to departure.  We’re thankful for the continued support from FAA as we work in partnership to improve the airfield infrastructure at the Franklin County Regional Airport.”
