Shuster Congratulates Ninth District Appointees to United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) offered his congratulations on Monday to the candidates from the 9th District who will be joining the nation’s service academies as members of the class of 2018. Five students from the Ninth District received an Offer of Appointment to join their peers from around the country at three of the nation’s service branch academies.

“It is my honor to have students as bright and talented as these representing the 9th District,” said Rep. Shuster. “These young men and women exemplify the highest ideals of commitment and service to their country. I am confident that they will do a fine job serving our nation and keeping America safe upon graduation. I am extremely proud of each one of them, and congratulate them all on this important achievement.”

Each year, members of Congress have the privilege of selecting a limited number of students to be nominated to the nation’s service academies. This honor comes with the obligation to serve for a minimum of five years in the military following graduation.
