Shuster Congratulates Franklin Fire Company #4 of Chambersburg on $26,600 Grant

WASHINGTON – Congressman Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) announced on Monday that Franklin Fire Company #4 of Chambersburg has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $26,600. The funds, which are part of the Fire Prevention & Safety program (FP&S), will be used for general awareness and fire safety education and outreach to the community.

“This is great news for Franklin Fire Company #4,” said Congressman Shuster. “It is not only important that the community understands the lifesaving services our firefighters provide but that they also know how important fire prevention awareness can be in saving lives in the future.”

The FP&S grant will allow the company to enhance its fire prevention program by acquiring new sound equipment for presentations along with funds to advertise upcoming events. Additionally, they will purchase 250 combination smoke and CO2 detectors to be installed in homes, and they will send out a fire awareness and education mailing to the community.

"The FEMA fire grants have been a great asset to the volunteer fire service,” said Kenny North Grant Administrator for Franklin Fire Company #4. “This funding will help our volunteer fire department accomplish our mission of protecting life and property more effectively."

The AFG program helps meet the needs of firefighters, emergency responders, and emergency medical organizations. Funds provided by the AFG program are used to purchase supplies, including new vehicles, protective gear, staff training, and other resources that local departments need to protect the public.
