Ellmers Statement on Unemployment Report for NC Counties

Unemployment Rates Increased in 91 of North Carolina’s 100 Counties in June
State’s Unadjusted Unemployment Rate Rises to 10.4 Percent

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon:

"Over the weekend, we received another example of how dire our economic crisis is. On Friday, the NC Employment Security Commission announced that unemployment rates increased in 91 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in June while the state's unadjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent - even higher than the national average. In my own district, that rate has risen to 10.5 percent. These figures are deeply disheartening and show that our economic situation is not getting the full attention it deserves."

"People are struggling to make ends meet and worrying about whether their business will be the next to hand out pink slips. They are sick and tired of excuses and have had enough. Small businesses are seeing their budgets busted by high energy costs and uncertainty that currently exist in the market due to the threat of higher taxes, inflation, and government overreach. When will President Obama and leaders in the Senate wake up and realize that their policies have failed and are only causing more harm to our economy?"

Congresswoman Ellmers has been working hard to create jobs and bring economic security back to North Carolina every day since taking office. Below is a summary of the legislation we have passed in the house to create jobs and are still waiting action by the Senate and President Obama. If you are having trouble viewing this click here.
